The Center for Innovative Drug Discovery (CIDD) is a joint venture between The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and University of Texas Health San Antonio (UTHSA) to provide capabilities and core services in support of cancer biomedical research related to drug discovery. The CIDD is composed of four key core facilities supporting small molecule cancer drug discovery: a Medicinal Chemistry and Synthesis Core Facility (MCCF) and a Pre-Clinical Pharmacology Core Facility (PCPC) at UTSA, and a High-Throughput Screening (HTSF) Facility and Computer-Aided Drug Design Facility (CADD) located at UTHSA. The CIDD is CPRIT-funded (RP210208) and has successfully collaborated with CPRIT-funded pharmaceutical industry partners (Curtana Pharmaceuticals, Dialectic Pharmaceuticals, others), as well as numerous academic collaborators in small molecule cancer drug discovery. The CIDD core facilities and researchers focus on employing pharmaceutical industry-level research strategies, innovations, and technology-driven techniques to help quickly identify and optimize small molecule and proteolysis targeting chimeras as novel cancer drug candidates. The ultimate intent of the CIDD is to provide a diverse array of core facilities and expertise to facilitate the translation of basic scientific discoveries into tangible pre-clinical candidate drugs that can be further developed into clinical therapies for numerous cancer indications.
